I OFTEN THINK IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR MY FRIEND, ANTHONY DELMAYNE,
Historian and published author, who kindly spent a lot of his valuable time guiding and
teaching me how to be a successful writer, historian and historical researcher, I would
never have known how or where to begin.
As it worked out I submitted the first six pony stories I wrote to the editor of “YOUR
PONY” magazine. Marion Jansen, who was responsible for the start of my career
by accepting all six of my stories. The magazine was produced in Holland under the
name of ‘PENNY” magazine, owned by Holco Publications, and I spent many happy years
writing regularly for the owner Peter Tuijnman writing not only text stories but also
picture script stories which was quite difficult but great fun. This commission with Holco
led me to writing for both adult and junior magazines in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and
Australia as well as some in the UK.
In between regular and permanent commissions on magazines I found time to write my
book on The Welsh Breeds Of Horses And Ponies, in the name of Brenda Williams.
A huge bonas developed from my initial contact with Marion, we became firm and close
friends for many years until her sad passing in late October this year, 2017, culminating
in her funeral on 11th November, the same date that the love of my life, my husband, passed away,
taken too soon, many years ago.
